🧠 Why Alzheimer’s Support Groups Matter

Organized by the Seychelles Alzheimer’s Foundation, these support group meetings

play a crucial role in the lives of those impacted by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. They offer:

  • Emotional Support: A safe space to express feelings, share challenges, and gain encouragement from others going through similar experiences.

  • Education and Awareness: Up-to-date information about the disease, care strategies, treatment options, and community services.

  • Coping Strategies: Practical advice for managing caregiving responsibilities, dealing with behavioral changes, and preserving personal well-being.

  • A Sense of Community: Connection with others reduces the sense of isolation that both patients and caregivers often face.

🧾 Did You Know?

  • Over 55 million people worldwide live with dementia, with Alzheimer’s being the most common form.

  • In low- and middle-income countries, including regions across Africa, nearly 60% of people with dementia remain undiagnosed and untreated.

  • Support and education for caregivers can delay institutionalisation of the person with Alzheimer’s and significantly improve quality of life for both.

  • Regular engagement in social activities has been shown to slow cognitive decline and improve mood in individuals with early-stage Alzheimer’s.

  • Caregiver support significantly reduces stress and can help delay the need for residential care.

Whether you're caring for a loved one, recently diagnosed, or simply want to learn more—you are welcome. Together, we can build a more informed, supportive, and compassionate community.
